Join us for the THIRD ANNUAL R.I.S.E. Challenge Hockey Tournament and Summit on Diversity and Inclusion, a dynamic event uniting hockey enthusiasts, stakeholders, and advocates for positive change in the hockey culture.

Last year, R.I.S.E. hosted its second tournament and summit, igniting conversations about diversity and belonging in hockey at Carleton University’s Ice House. This year, we’re back with an expanded one-day event featuring a 4-on-4 hockey tournament, aiming to engage various community teams and over 200 (youths aged 13-18,) alongwith their parents, coaches, hockey enthusiasts, and hockey executives from Eastern Ontario and surrounding areas.

Our Mission is Clear: to promote diversity and inclusion in hockey! We welcome diverse hockey groups such as the African Hockey Association, Ottawa Pride, and Hockey 4 Youth, uniting to support positive change within the sport.

The Summit on Diversity and Inclusion will facilitate crucial discussions among attendees, addressing issues of maltreatment and fostering a resounding Call to Action. Together, we’ll explore strategies to increase accessibility, promote networking, and create a diverse and inclusive community within hockey.

SUMMIT DETAILS

Our keynote speaker, Irfan Chaudhry of Hockey Canada will share with Summit attendees their efforts to address issues of maltreatment and planned strategies to work with hockey organizations in order to advance equity, diversity and inclusion. Attendees will have the opportunity to make known their concerns and suggestions for creating a safer, more inclusive and welcoming hockey environment for all.

We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with The Carnegie Initiative and Carnegie Family to advocate for diversity and inclusion in the hockey community. As part of this partnership, R.I.S.E. will host, during the Summit, a public screening of the acclaimed documentary, ‘Beyond Their Years: The Incredible Legacies of Herb Carnegie and Buck O’Neil. Check out

Attendees will have the opportunity to not only watch the documentary, but join in a panel discussion focusing on its themes. This discussion aims to spark essential conversations and raise awareness about the importance of inclusivity and equity. Panelists include Bernice Carnegie, Herb’s daughter and Rane Carnegie, Herb’s grandson.

Moreover, community members will have the opportunity to share their perspectives during the panel discussion, offering insights into how organizations can actively promote change and nurture diversity and inclusion within the hockey community. This incorporation of community voices underscores the commitment of The R.I.S.E. Summit, The Carnegie Initiative, and the Carnegie Family to embracing diverse perspectives in the pursuit of meaningful change and progress.

Hosted by Adrian Harewood, an associate professor of journalism/communications and former Canadian TV/radio journalist, the Youth Panel Discussion, consisting of Nisrene Darwiche, Jayce, Paige Burnswell, and Humaira, will explore their lived experiences and perspectives on the advancement of equity and inclusion in hockey.
